Bacterial infection with Treponema pallidum, passed through sexual intercourse or intrauterine infection of the foetus

Causes:
1. Congenital Lues
2. acquired Lues
 

Symptoms:
1. Congenital Lues

 Multisystemic disease with harm on skin and bones, manifestations in inner organs

 

2. Acquired Lues

I° stage:
Red, wet, highly infectious ulcer on outer genitals (rarely on inner gentials), swollen inguinallymphatic nodes
II° stage:
After 2-3 month, skin rash, mucous patches (painless silvery ulcerations of mucous membranes (mostly mouth and genitals), condyloma lata (coalescing papules wich form a plaque frequently in genital areas, axilla and under the breasts, hair loss (alopecia), general symptoms such as fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, pains in bones
III° stage:
Infiltrative, destructive lesions of skin, bones or liver (gummatous syphilis), cardiovascular syphillis (leads to inflammation of the aorta and can be associated with aortic aneurysms and valvular disease), damage of the central nervous system (disorders with involvement of the meninges, brain, spinal cord, eye or auditory system)
 

Therapy:
- Penicillin G
